Pawtato dog treats

Pawtato is a range of dog treats built around sweet potato rather than a meat base, sold as sticks, tubes and knots and marketed as low fat and gluten free. We stock a selection from the range as one of the natural-leaning treat options on our treat shelf.

What makes the range different

Most everyday dog treats are meat or biscuit based, so a sweet-potato-based chew is a genuinely different option rather than a repackaged version of the same thing. The low-fat, gluten-free positioning is aimed at owners managing a dog's weight or avoiding gluten specifically, rather than a general health claim that applies to every dog.

The range comes in a few different shapes and flavours — plain sticks and knots, and flavoured versions such as peanut and apple cinnamon or turmeric and chicory root — which gives some variety without moving away from the sweet-potato base the whole range is built on.

Who it suits

This is a reasonable option if you are looking for a treat lower in fat than a typical meaty chew, want to avoid gluten specifically, or simply want to give your dog some variety alongside their usual treats. It is not a complete food and is not meant to replace a proper meal.

As with any new treat, introduce it in small amounts the first time rather than a full bag, and watch how your dog gets on. A dog with a known sensitive stomach should be started on a small piece before it becomes a regular addition.

The chewy, sticky texture of a sweet-potato stick also makes it a reasonable option for slower, more absorbing chew time compared with a treat that disappears in one bite, which some owners find useful for a dog who tends to bolt treats rather than take time over them.

Common questions

Are Pawtato treats suitable for dogs with a grain sensitivity?
The range is marketed as gluten free, which makes it a reasonable option for a dog avoiding gluten specifically. If your dog has a diagnosed sensitivity, check with your vet before introducing any new treat, since gluten free is not the same as suitable for every kind of sensitivity.
Are Pawtato treats good for weight management?
They are marketed as low fat compared with many meat-based treats, which can make them a sensible choice if you are watching a dog's weight, but treats of any kind should still be a small part of a dog's daily calories rather than a free pass to feed more.
Does Giddy Pets stock the whole Pawtato range?
No, we stock a selection of shapes and flavours rather than every product the brand makes. What is shown in the grid above reflects what we currently have available to order, and that can change as stock does.
Can puppies have Pawtato treats?
Introduce any new treat to a puppy gradually and in small amounts, watching how they get on, the same as with any other treat. If you are unsure whether a specific product suits a growing puppy, check the pack or ask your vet before making it a regular addition.
