A rawhide alternative only earns its place in the treat drawer if the dog will actually chew it rather than abandon it after one lick, and a stick made from sweet potato and rice at least gives them something to work at.

It's built from sweet potato flour (48%) and rice flour (25%) with corn starch and vegetable glycerin binding it, coloured and flavoured with a small measure of blueberry powder (0.5%), and preserved with potassium sorbate — no meat, wheat, dairy or egg anywhere in the list.

• Sweet potato flour 48%, rice flour 25%
• Blueberry powder 0.5%
• Protein 3%, fat 0.5%, crude fibre 1%, moisture 18%
• Not suitable for puppies under 4 months
• Suitable for puppies over 16 weeks with supervision
• 120G pack

On the numbers. Blueberry powder is 0.5% of the recipe — present, but a flavouring measure rather than a fruit-forward treat, so don't expect much blueberry taste from it. Pawtato don't state how many sticks come in the 120G pack.

Who it's for: owners looking for a meat-free, low-fat chew for puppies over 4 months and adult dogs, particularly where a household avoids animal-derived treats.
