Frontline spot-on for puppies

Frontline makes spot-on flea and tick treatment that is applied to the skin at the back of a puppy's neck, where it cannot be easily licked off. It works on contact and kills fleas before they can bite, rather than needing to be swallowed. The pack itself sets the minimum age and weight for a puppy, and that is the instruction to follow rather than a guess.

How a spot-on treatment works

A spot-on is applied directly to the skin, usually in one or two spots between the shoulder blades, where a puppy cannot reach to lick or chew it. From there it spreads through the natural oils in the coat and skin, rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream the way a tablet is.

That is different from a flea collar or a shampoo, which work on contact only where they touch, or a tablet, which works from the inside. Each has its place, but a spot-on is usually the simplest to apply correctly at home.

Puppies specifically

Every spot-on product states a minimum age and a minimum weight on the packaging, because a very young or very small puppy is not always suitable for the same treatment as an adult dog. That instruction is there for a reason, and it is the one to follow exactly, rather than assuming a smaller dose of an adult product would do.

If your puppy falls under the stated age or weight, or you are at all unsure which size and strength is right, ask your vet before using anything rather than guessing at it.

The range we stock

We carry Frontline's spot-on pipettes in single packs and multipacks, sized for different dog weights so you can match the pack to your puppy rather than splitting an adult dose. As your puppy grows, the size band that fits them will change, so it is worth checking the weight range on the pack again at each repeat purchase rather than assuming the last one still applies.

Weight and age are the two figures to check every time you buy, not just the first time, since a puppy who fitted one size band a few months ago may need a different pack entirely by the next repeat order.

Common questions

At what age can a puppy start using Frontline?
It depends on the specific product, and the packaging states the minimum age clearly. Some spot-on treatments are suitable from eight weeks, others later, so check the pack in front of you rather than a different product's instructions, and ask your vet if you are unsure.
How soon does a spot-on start working?
Most spot-on flea treatments begin working within a day of application, though the exact timing varies by product and is stated on the pack. Fleas already established on a puppy will not vanish instantly, so do not be alarmed if you still see some in the first day or two.
Can I bathe my puppy after applying it?
Most spot-on products ask you to wait a period, often around 48 hours, before bathing so the treatment has time to spread through the coat and skin. The pack will give the exact timing, and it is worth following it rather than a general rule of thumb.
Is Frontline safe to use alongside a wormer?
Many owners use a flea treatment and a wormer as separate, routine products, but the honest answer to combining any two treatments is to check with your vet or the product's own guidance rather than assume it is automatically fine to layer them without checking.
