Forthglade salmon dog food
Forthglade makes several salmon-based recipes rather than one, spanning a grain-free complete meal, a cold-pressed dry food and soft training treats. All use salmon as the named protein, which matters for dogs kept off other meats, but the format you need depends on whether you are feeding a meal or rewarding good behaviour.
The salmon range we stock
Our shelf includes the Forthglade Complete Adult Dog Grain Free Salmon & Veg, a wet complete meal built around salmon with vegetables and no cereal filler, alongside the Forthglade Cold Pressed Grain Free Salmon, a dry food made using a lower-heat process than standard kibble extrusion. Both are complete foods rather than toppers, so either can be fed as the whole meal rather than alongside something else.
For treats and training, we also stock the Forthglade Soft Bite Grain Free Salmon Bites and the Soft Bites Training Treat Salmon & Herring — small, soft pieces rather than a hard biscuit, which suits dogs still working on their adult teeth as well as older dogs who find a hard chew harder work.
Who it suits
A single-protein salmon recipe is a sensible starting point if you are trying to work out what agrees with your dog, or if you already know red meat or poultry does not. It is not automatically hypoallergenic just because it is fish — a dog can react to any protein, salmon included — but it does narrow down what they are eating compared with a mixed-meat recipe.
Whether the wet or dry format suits your dog better usually comes down to preference and how you like to feed rather than anything nutritional: wet food carries more moisture and a shorter shelf life once opened, dry keeps longer and is easier to portion for a dog on a set daily amount.

Common questions
- Is Forthglade salmon dog food grain free?
- The Complete Adult Dog Grain Free Salmon & Veg and the Cold Pressed Grain Free Salmon are both grain-free recipes. Check the specific product page for the exact recipe you are looking at, since Forthglade's wider range includes recipes that are not grain-free.
- Is salmon a good protein for dogs with a sensitive stomach?
- It is a reasonable one to try, particularly for a dog who has already reacted to red meat or poultry, but no single protein suits every sensitive dog. Introduce it gradually alongside their current food and watch how they get on before switching over fully.
- Can I feed the soft salmon bites as a meal replacement?
- No, the Soft Bite Grain Free Salmon Bites and the Salmon & Herring training treats are treats, not complete food, and are not formulated to cover a dog's full nutritional needs. Use the Complete Adult Dog Grain Free Salmon & Veg or the Cold Pressed dry food if you want a full salmon meal.
- Does Forthglade make a salmon food for puppies?
- Our current stock of Forthglade salmon recipes is the adult range shown above. If you are feeding a puppy, check the label for a life-stage statement before using an adult recipe as their main food.
