What to feed an American Bulldog
American Bulldogs are a large, powerfully built breed, typically weighing 27 to 54kg as adults, and their diet needs to match that size and muscle mass — a large-breed complete food with attention to joint support and controlled growth in puppies matters more for this breed than for a smaller, lighter dog.
Why size changes what to look for
A large, heavy breed like the American Bulldog carries more weight through its joints than a smaller dog, which makes joint-supporting nutrition, and simply avoiding excess weight, more important than it might be for a lighter breed. A large-breed formula is typically calibrated with this in mind.
Puppies of large breeds also need controlled growth rather than rapid growth, since growing too fast can put extra strain on developing joints. A large-breed puppy food, rather than a standard puppy formula, is usually the better starting point for this reason.
Protein and muscle maintenance
This is a muscular, athletic breed, and a good-quality protein source supports the muscle mass they naturally carry.
