Legs get caught — check the fit

The sprawling-leg designs look best but have the most to snag on door frames, table legs and other dogs. Check that the legs are stitched flat to the body rather than dangling loose, and keep an eye on them around anything your dog squeezes past.

For a dog who is likely to chew, the printed capes are the safer buy — there is nothing protruding to get hold of in the first place.

Web capes versus full bodies

A web-print cape covers the back and fastens at the chest, so it comes off in one pull and suits dogs who have never worn a costume. A full spider body sits over the shoulders with a belly strap and gives the stronger silhouette, but asks more of your dog.

Everything here is chosen to be genuinely useful in everyday life with your pet — quality-checked, fairly priced and shipped tracked across the UK. For any health concern, your vet is always the best first port of call.

Common questions

Is it safe to put my pet in a costume?

For short, supervised periods, yes. A costume must never restrict breathing, sight, hearing or movement, must have nothing small enough to chew off and swallow, and should never be left on an unattended pet — including overnight or during rough play. If your pet freezes, flattens their ears, or tries to back out of it, take it off and try a bandana instead.

How do I get the size right?

Measure three things while your pet is standing: neck circumference, chest at the widest point just behind the front legs, and back length from the collar to the base of the tail. Chest is the measurement that decides the size — if your pet is between sizes, go up.

Do the glow-in-the-dark ones need charging?

They are luminous rather than powered — leave them under a bright light for a few minutes before you go out and they will glow for a while as it gets dark. There is no battery and nothing to switch on.
