Frozen raw meat for dogs
This is the frozen raw aisle — complete raw meals, mince and meaty cuts kept frozen until you're ready to feed them, rather than a shelf-stable pouch or tin. Raw feeding has grown a lot in popularity, but it asks more of you in terms of freezer space, defrosting ahead and kitchen hygiene than a bag of kibble does, so it's worth knowing what you're taking on before you fill the freezer.
You might also want to browse slow feeder dog bowls and enrichment lick mats.
Complete meals versus mince and bones
A complete raw meal is formulated to cover a dog's full nutritional needs on its own, in the same way a complete dry food is — it's meant to be the whole diet, not an add-on. Plain mince or raw meaty cuts, on the other hand, are usually sold as part of a wider raw diet you build yourself, alongside bone, offal and other components.
If you're new to raw feeding, a complete formula removes the guesswork of balancing a diet from separate cuts, which is easy to get wrong without doing some proper reading first.
Storage and defrosting
Raw food needs proper freezer space and a plan for defrosting — most owners move the next day or two's portions into the fridge to thaw slowly rather than defrosting at room temperature, which is where raw meat of any kind is least safe.
Once defrosted, treat it the way you would raw meat for your own kitchen: use it within the timeframe on the pack, and don't refreeze it once it's thawed.
Hygiene and switching over
Wash your dog's bowl, any surfaces the food touches and your own hands thoroughly after handling raw food, the same as you would preparing raw meat for people. This matters more with young children, elderly or immunocompromised people in the house.
Introduce raw food gradually if your dog has been on a different diet, watching how they get on with it, and speak to your vet first if your dog has an existing health condition — some conditions mean a raw diet needs adjusting or isn't appropriate.

Common questions
- Is raw meat safe to feed a dog?
- Frozen raw meat and complete raw meals are fed by many owners successfully, but they need proper handling — thorough defrosting in the fridge rather than at room temperature, and the same hygiene you'd use with raw meat for people. Speak to your vet before switching if your dog has an existing health condition.
- What's the difference between complete raw food and raw mince?
- A complete raw meal is formulated to meet a dog's full nutritional needs on its own. Plain mince or raw meaty cuts are usually one part of a wider raw diet that also needs bone and other components to be properly balanced, so they aren't meant to be fed alone long-term.
- How do I defrost raw dog food safely?
- Move the portion you need into the fridge and let it thaw slowly over a day or so, rather than leaving it out at room temperature, where raw meat is least safe. Use it within the timeframe given on the pack once thawed, and don't refreeze it.
- How much freezer space does raw feeding need?
- More than most owners expect at first — enough to hold several days' or a week's worth of portions at a time, on top of whatever else is already in there. It's worth checking your freezer has genuine spare capacity before committing to raw feeding long-term.
