Soft cat beds
Soft cat beds are the plush, enclosed style most cats gravitate towards for a proper nap — we stock Ancol's teddy-fabric range, including the small bite donut bed and the ear cave design, in a few colours. Both shapes are built for warmth and comfort rather than looks alone.
Donut beds versus ear caves
A donut bed is open with raised, cushioned sides, giving a cat somewhere to curl up while still being able to see out, which suits a cat that likes to keep an eye on the room even while resting.
The ear cave design is more enclosed, with a hooded, cave-like shape that appeals to cats who prefer to burrow away and feel hidden rather than exposed — often a better fit for a more nervous or easily startled cat.
Choosing the right size and spot
Size the bed against how your cat actually curls up rather than their overall length stretched out — most cats sleep coiled, so a bed that looks small next to a standing cat is often exactly right once they settle in.
Position matters as much as the bed itself: somewhere warm, slightly elevated or tucked against a wall tends to get used far more than an identical bed placed in an open, high-traffic spot.

Common questions
- What's the difference between a donut bed and an ear cave bed?
- A donut bed is open with raised, padded sides, so your cat can see out while curled up, while an ear cave is more enclosed and hooded, suiting a cat that prefers to feel hidden and burrowed away while resting.
- How do I get my cat to actually use a new bed?
- Placement matters more than the bed itself — try somewhere warm, slightly elevated or tucked against a wall rather than out in the open, and give it time, since cats often take a few days to trust a new spot.
- Are teddy-fabric cat beds machine washable?
- Check the specific listing, but most soft plush beds like these have a removable, washable cover or can be washed as a whole on a gentle cycle. Avoid high heat drying, which can damage the plush texture.
- What size cat bed should I buy?
- Go by how your cat curls up to sleep rather than their full stretched-out length — most cats sleep coiled, so a bed that looks snug is often the right size once they settle into it.
- Why does my cat ignore their new bed and sleep somewhere else?
- It usually comes down to location rather than the bed itself. Try moving it to somewhere warmer, quieter or more elevated, and give it a few days before deciding your cat has rejected it outright.
