Padded Winter Dog Gilet

Plenty of dogs object to a full coat, and it is usually the sleeves they object to. Anything wrapped around the front legs changes how the shoulder moves, and a dog that feels restricted will stand still, shake, or try to reverse out of it. A sleeveless gilet avoids that entirely: it covers the chest and back, where the heat is actually lost, and leaves the legs to move exactly as they normally do.

The shell is quilted, which is what gives a thin layer its warmth. The stitching holds the padding in place so it cannot migrate into one corner and leave a cold patch over the ribs, and a quilted face sheds a light shower better than a knit does. A D-ring sits on the back so you can clip a lead straight onto the gilet instead of layering a harness over the top of it, and an embroidered patch keeps the whole thing from looking purely functional.

On sizing and stock. Not every colour runs in every size, and the khaki in particular is listed only in the larger ones, so choose the size first and the colour second. Size by your dog's back length, measured from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, rather than by weight: two dogs of identical weight can be a size apart.
