A trachea is mostly cartilage, which is why the protein figure on a dried one comes out so high and the fat figure so low compared with almost anything else in a treat tin.

This one is beef trachea, air-dried, with meat and animal derivatives, cereals and tallow added. Analysis puts protein at 72%, fat at 16%, crude fibre at 4.5% and crude ash at 2%, a proportion most chews aimed at chewing rather than nutrition do not get close to. It comes as a pack of 20, described as 100% natural.

• Beef trachea, air-dried, with meat and animal derivatives, cereals and tallow
• Protein 72%, fat 16%, crude fibre 4.5%, crude ash 2%
• Feed no more than one a day, as a treat alongside a balanced diet
• Suitable for all breeds and sizes; feed to puppies over 4 months
• Pack of 20
• Store in a dry, cool place

On the protein figure. 72% protein against 16% fat is an unusually lean pairing for a dog treat, but a whole trachea is still a hard, dense chew. It is a once-a-day treat rather than something to leave with a dog that swallows chunks instead of working through them.

Who it's for: owners who want a treat that leans toward protein rather than fat, given to a dog over 4 months old that chews rather than gulps.
