A dog with a sensitive stomach is often steered toward lamb and rice specifically because it is one of the gentler combinations on the market, and Simpsons build a fairly rich recipe around it rather than a bare-bones limited-ingredient one. Dried lamb leads at a minimum 28%, with brown rice close behind at a minimum 26%, and lamb gravy added at 3% for palatability.

The recipe also folds in glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin for joints, alongside MOS and FOS as prebiotics and nucleotides — an ingredient list that goes well beyond a basic lamb-and-rice formula. Crude protein comes out at 24%, oil at 16%, crude fibre at 3% and crude ash at 10%, with calcium at 1.96%, phosphorus at 0.82%, omega-6 at 3.15% and omega-3 at 1.11%.

On sensitive stomachs. Simpsons describe this as gentle on the stomach, and lamb and rice is a combination commonly used for dogs with digestive sensitivity — but a genuine intolerance is worth diagnosing with a vet rather than assuming this recipe will suit a specific dog's symptoms.

Who it's for: owners of adult dogs of any breed who want a lamb-and-rice recipe with a genuine joint-care package built in, rather than a basic limited-ingredient food.
