Details
Not every dog needs a jumper, and it is worth being honest about which yours is. A double-coated dog carries her own insulation and will overheat in a knit indoors. The dogs who genuinely benefit are the thin-coated and the small: whippets, Italian greyhounds, terriers, elderly dogs and anything that stands shivering by the door before the walk has even started.
For those dogs this is a proper winter knit rather than a novelty. The body is cable-knit, which traps more air than a flat knit, and the roll neck covers the throat and the top of the chest, the area a small dog loses heat from fastest. The pink and green Fair Isle pattern is knitted into the fabric, and the garment weighs between 50 and 120 grams depending on size, so it layers under a waterproof without bulking her out.
