Hover to zoomSize guide & how to measure
Leads are chosen by length and width rather than your pet’s body size. Pick the width to suit your pet’s strength and the length to suit how you walk.
How to measure
- Width: lighter, narrower webbing for small dogs; wider, thicker webbing for strong pullers and larger dogs.
- Standard lead (1.2–1.5 m): everyday pavement walks and training.
- Long line (3–10 m): recall practice and open spaces.
- Short / traffic lead (under 1 m): close control in busy areas.
| Length | Best for |
|---|---|
| Under 1 m | Traffic / close control |
| 1.2–1.5 m | Everyday walks (most popular) |
| 1.8–2 m | Relaxed walks, more freedom |
| 3 m + | Recall training, open spaces |
Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact length and width.

Full description
Sniffing is how a dog reads a walk, and a fixed lead of a metre and a half stops most of that before it starts. Extra line lets them cast about on a wide verge or an empty field and still be attached to you, which is the honest appeal of a retractable: not that it gives more control, but that it buys back some freedom on ground where a long line would otherwise be the only option.
The reel takes up slack automatically as your dog moves back towards you, so the line does not end up looped around your legs the way a long lead does. A single thumb button is the whole control system: press to brake, hold to keep the line short, and lock it there while you pass another dog or step onto a pavement. The handle is shaped to be held for the length of a walk rather than gripped, which matters because a retractable is only safe while it is in your hand.
- Retractable reel with automatic take-up
- One-button brake and lock, worked with the thumb
- Contoured handle for a full-length walk
- Blue finish
Be honest about retractables. They belong on open ground, not on a pavement, near traffic or around other dogs, where a dog who is suddenly six metres ahead of you is a genuine hazard. Never use one with a collar on a dog who lunges, because the shock at full extension goes straight into the neck; clip it to a harness instead.
Who it's for: Owners who walk mostly on quiet, open ground and want to hand back some sniffing distance to a dog who does not pull.

Why we chose it
The honest appeal of a retractable is not more control, it is buying back some sniffing distance on ground where a long line would otherwise be the only option. For quiet, open walks with a dog who does not pull. Ask me the length.
