A racing greyhound at rest still needs feeding every day, but not at the protein and energy level it would need mid-season — which is why resting feeds exist as a separate category from the working feeds sold alongside them.

Connolly's RED MILLS Tracker is described as a resting dog feed for racing dogs, with composition of maize, dehydrated beef meat, wheat, poultry fat, beet pulp, fishmeal, whole linseed and minerals. Analysis gives 20% protein, 8% oil, 2.3% fibre, 7% ash and a maximum moisture of 10%. RED MILLS say it's suitable to use alongside meat and fish for owners who want to supplement the diet without overfeeding protein or energy while a dog is resting rather than racing.

On the name. "Tracker" and the resting-feed framing might suggest a racing-day food, but RED MILLS pitch this specifically at dogs when they are resting between races, at a lower protein and energy level than a working feed — check you're buying the right feed for the stage your dog is at.

Who it's for: owners of racing greyhounds and other working dogs who want a resting-period feed that's designed to sit alongside meat and fish rather than replace them outright.
