A can labelled "Fish" tells you what flavour to expect rather than what the recipe is mostly made of, and reading the ingredient list on this one is a reminder that "fish" is usually one line among several rather than the whole can.

This is PRO PLAN's Everyday Nutrition Fish, a 400G complete wet food. The ingredients list opens with meat and animal derivatives, then fish and fish derivatives at 14%, then derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals and vegetables (0.5% dried pea, equivalent to 4.5% pea) and various sugars. Moisture is 81%, protein 8.5%, fat content 4%, crude ash 2.5% and crude fibre 0.3%. PRO PLAN describe it as suitable for adult dogs of all breed sizes, formulated to help keep the coat shiny. It's fortified per kg with vitamin A (700 IU), vitamin D3 (97 IU), iron, iodine, copper, manganese and zinc, plus a technological additive (cassia gum, 2500mg/kg) and flavourings.

What the name doesn't tell you. Fish and fish derivatives make up 14% of the can; the ingredient list opens with meat and animal derivatives of unspecified type first. It's a genuine complete food and the fish content is real, but it isn't the majority ingredient the can's naming might suggest.

Who it's for: owners of adult dogs of any breed size who want a canned complete wet food and are choosing fish as the flavour rather than expecting an all-fish recipe.
