A dental stick that's both grain-free and meat-free rules out two of the most common things dogs react to at once, which narrows the field considerably for an owner managing a sensitive dog.

This one is built from tapioca, peas and glycerol of vegetable origin, with 6% cheddar cheese for flavour, hydrolysed yeasts and lignocellulose added, and a small amount of sodium hexametaphosphate — an ingredient used specifically to help reduce tartar.

• Grain-free and meat-free
• Protein 4.0%, fat 0.5%, fibre 3.0%, ash 1.5%, moisture 17%
• 6% cheddar cheese
• Contains hydrolysed yeasts, a natural protein and B-vitamin source
• Contains lignocellulose, a fibrous ingredient to help clean teeth
• Contains sodium hexametaphosphate to help reduce tartar

On the cheese content. At 6%, cheddar cheese is a flavouring here rather than the main ingredient — tapioca and peas make up the bulk of the recipe. If a dog needs to avoid dairy entirely, that 6% is still cheese, so it's worth checking against a specific intolerance rather than assuming 'meat-free' covers it.

Who it's for: owners of dogs that need to avoid both grain and meat, wanting a cheese-flavoured daily dental stick rather than an unflavoured one.
