An advent calendar built for a dog solves a problem a human one doesn't have — the whole point is doled out by someone else, one piece at a time, on a schedule the dog has no say in.

Hatchwells' calendar is made with carob rather than chocolate, described as the safer alternative dogs still find appealing. Composition includes sugar, non-hydrogenated vegetable oil, carob powder (5%), soya, milk powder and whey, with an emulsifier (sunflower lecithin). Analysis shows 5% protein, 12% crude fibre, 33% crude oils and fats, 1.5% ash and 2.4% moisture. Each treat is breakable into four bite-size pieces, and it's made in GB.
