Puppy training runs on how many treats you can give in ten minutes, which makes size the specification that matters most. A biscuit you have to snap in half before it is small enough is a biscuit you stop reaching for by the second week.

This is a mix of two shapes, both made small: a puppy-size crunchy bone-shaped biscuit and a puppy-size marrowbone roll. Pointer describe it as a complementary pet food with vitamins added, and it suits small dogs as well as puppies. The composition runs cereals, meat and animal derivatives, minerals, various sugars, oils and fats, and derivatives of vegetable origin, and the analysis comes out at crude protein 9.5%, fat content 7.0%, inorganic matter 11.0% and crude fibre 0.5%. The bag is 400G.

• 400G bag
• Two shapes: small bone biscuits and puppy-size marrowbone rolls
• Crude protein 9.5%, fat content 7.0%
• Inorganic matter 11.0%, crude fibre 0.5%
• Vitamin A at 4400 IU/kg, vitamin D3 at 440 IU/kg, vitamin E at 45 mg/kg
• Complementary food, not a meal

On the sugars and the colourants. Cereals come first, and both various sugars and, under additives, colourants are on Pointer's own list — so this is a cereal biscuit with colour added rather than a meat treat. The meat is declared as "meat and animal derivatives" with no species named and no percentage given, and at 9.5% the protein is low even for a biscuit. If you are choosing puppy treats on the label, that is the label.

Who it's for: anyone training a puppy or a small dog who needs a lot of small, countable, cheap biscuits and is buying on size and price rather than on ingredients.
