Furniture does not survive a dog on its own, and the honest fix is not a stern voice but a layer between the two. A blanket thrown over the sofa cushion, the back seat or the end of the bed takes the mud, the hair and the damp, then goes in the machine, and the thing underneath stays as it was. This one is sized to do that job properly rather than as an afterthought.

It is reversible: plush sherpa on one face for warmth, flannel on the other for a smoother and cooler surface, so the same blanket suits a cold February evening and a July nap. The size run is unusually wide for a pet blanket, from 50 by 70 centimetres up to 145 by 216, which means you can cover a whole three-seat sofa rather than a small patch in the middle of it.
