Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.

How to measure

Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

Costume photographs live or die on the silhouette, and a hooded habit is one of the few that reads instantly from across a room. Black and white, the hood up over the head, a fastening under the chin, and the whole joke lands in about a second. That matters when your model has a short attention span and you have roughly four frames before they shake the thing off and walk away from you.

It goes on as a cloak rather than a fitted garment, so there are no legs to post through and no straps to work around, and it comes off again in one movement when the shoot is over. That is more useful than it sounds. The quicker a costume is on and off, the less a pet learns to associate the sight of it with being held still, and the more willing they are the second time you try.
