Size guide & how to measure

Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.

How to measure

Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

The simplest costume in the range is also the one most likely to actually get worn. A white sheet with cut-out eyes drapes over the top of a pet rather than being fitted around them, so there are no legs to post through and nothing to fasten tightly anywhere. A cat who would fight a jumpsuit to a standstill will often tolerate this for the length of a photograph, which is the only reason it is worth owning.

Loose is the point, but loose also means the eye holes will not stay lined up on their own. You want one person holding the front straight and another taking the picture, or you end up with a photograph of a sheet. Plan for two people and about thirty seconds of goodwill. White fabric also photographs poorly against a pale wall, so shoot it against something dark and it will look far closer to what you had in mind.

Two things worth knowing. A drape over the head covers a pet's eyes and muffles their hearing, and most animals object to that far more than to the fabric itself. Put it on for the shot and take it off, and never let a pet walk about or manage stairs while wearing it. If your cat backs away from it once, take that as the answer and stop there.
