Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.

How to measure

Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

Full description

The hat has an adjustable chin strap, which is the part that decides whether you get the shot or spend five minutes picking a hat up off the floor. The bandana ties at the neck in the usual way and carries a classic paisley print. The whole set weighs around 40 grams, so there is very little sitting on the animal, and it comes in six colour pairings running from black on black to a beige hat with a white scarf.

How long to leave it on. Costumes are for short, supervised periods only, and a chin strap in particular should never be left on an unattended pet. Watch for the signs an animal has had enough, which usually means flat ears, freezing in place or trying to back out of it, and take it off straight away. Cats tolerate this far less well than dogs as a rule. Tie the bandana loosely enough to slip two fingers underneath.
