Product description
Dogs shed heat by panting and through their paws, and on a close, humid day that is simply not enough. An evaporative vest borrows the mechanism we use ourselves. Soak it, wring it out, fit it, and as the water evaporates off the mesh it draws heat away from the skin underneath for as long as the fabric stays damp.
The fabric is an open mesh rather than a solid layer, so air passes straight through it and the vest breathes instead of trapping warm air against the coat. An adjustable buckle strap holds it in place while your dog moves, and a D-ring on the top takes a lead, so you are not fitting a harness over the top of a wet vest. Bright colours help with visibility as well.
- Soak, wring out and fit for evaporative cooling
- Open mesh construction for airflow
- Adjustable buckle strap
- Top-mounted D-ring for a lead
- Sizes S to 3XL
- Fluorescent green, royal blue, orange and grass green
A cooling vest is not a licence to walk in the heat. It works while it is damp, it works less well in high humidity, and it does nothing about hot pavement under the paws. On a genuinely hot day the answer is still to walk early or late. Rewet it during longer outings rather than letting it dry out on the dog.
Who it's for: Thick-coated, dark-coated and flat-faced dogs who struggle in summer, and anyone walking a dog through a British heatwave.
Why we chose it
Soak it, wring it out, fit it, and as the water evaporates it draws heat off the skin for as long as the fabric stays damp. Open mesh, so air passes through. Rewet it during a long outing rather than letting it dry.
