Some dogs sleep flat out in the middle of the room. Others spend twenty minutes shoving their nose under a cushion first. This is a bed for the second kind: a round base with raised bolster sides and a fleece-lined hood attached along one edge, so a cat or a small dog can burrow underneath and be properly covered rather than lying hopefully next to a blanket.

Attaching the blanket is the detail that makes it work. A loose throw gets pushed off the bed within a night, whereas a hood stitched to the rim stays where the dog left it and holds a pocket of warmth over the body. The lining is plush fleece and the maker describes the outer as waterproof and dirt-resistant, which counts for something on a bed that will be dragged half under a radiator.

On the word orthopaedic. The maker uses it and we would rather explain than repeat it. This is a thickly padded plush bed, not a firm memory-foam mattress, and a dog with diagnosed arthritis or hip trouble needs the latter. What it does well is warmth and enclosure. Note too that the diameter is measured across the outside, so the usable space inside the bolster is smaller than the figure suggests.
