A variety pack and a sensitive stomach are, on the face of it, opposite ideas. One is bought so that dinner stops being the same thing every night; the other is usually managed by making dinner exactly the same thing every night. It is worth knowing which of the two you are actually shopping for before you open the box.

What is in this one is 12 cans at 390G: 6 chicken, 3 duck and 3 turkey, each in a herb gravy. Every recipe is built on 50% of its named poultry with 8% fruit and vegetables, from 1% dried mixed peppers, peas and sweet potato. It is grain free and gluten free, and Naturo make it as a complete food for adult dogs rather than something to spoon over kibble. The oils are named and quantified instead of being lumped together - sunflower at 0.13%, flaxseed and salmon at 0.06% each - and dried chicory root and yeast are in there as sources of the prebiotics FOS and MOS.

On buying a variety pack for a sensitive dog. If an intolerance is what brought you here, a box that rotates three proteins is the wrong shape: an exclusion diet works by running one protein at a time, and a dog that reacts in a week having eaten chicken, duck and turkey has told you nothing about which of the three did it. Buy this for variety, and take an exclusion diet to your vet. One more thing on the numbers - the duck's ash figure reaches us printed as "3." with the decimal unfinished, so if that value matters to you, read the can rather than this page.

Who it's for: owners of an adult dog with no diagnosed intolerance who want a grain-free wet food with a named meat at half the tin, and who would rather buy a fortnight at a time than a can at a time.
