Full description

A dog that's bored of its usual bowl doesn't necessarily need a new diet, just a reason to be interested in the one it's already got — and a small measure of something freeze dried and strongly flavoured over the top is a cheap way to test that theory before changing anything else.

This is Nature's Menu's freeze-dried turkey topper, made from 80% turkey and 20% fruit and vegetables, including apple (6%) and butternut squash (4.4%) among the named ingredients. It comes as a 40G pack, made in Norfolk according to the maker, with protein at 40%, fat 33%, crude ash 8%, crude fibre 6% and moisture 6% — a lean, high-protein profile for a sprinkle-on topper.

40G freeze-dried turkey topper
80% turkey, 20% fruit and vegetables
Protein 40%, fat 33%, crude ash 8%, crude fibre 6%, moisture 6%
Freeze dried, for adult dogs of all sizes
Sprinkle over a usual bowl of dry or raw food

Where this stops being complete. This is a complementary topper, not a complete food — meant to sit on top of an existing diet rather than replace it. No specific serving amount is given, so a light sprinkle to start is the sensible approach rather than a fixed measure.

Who it's for: owners of adult dogs of any size who want a lean, high-protein topper to add interest to an existing meal.

Why we chose it

At 40% protein for 33% fat, it's a strongly flavoured way to lift a bowl without needing much of it. It's also freeze dried, so it keeps in a cupboard rather than needing the freezer a raw topper would.
