Some dogs go off their food for no obvious reason, and the cheapest fix an owner has is making the same bowl smell and taste more interesting rather than switching the whole diet — which is exactly the job a topper is built for.

This one is Nature's Menu's freeze-dried lamb topper: 80% lamb with apple (6%) and butternut squash (4.4%), alongside pea fibre, sweet potato, dried carrot, cranberries, blackberries, flaxseed and several other named botanicals. It comes as a 40G pack, freeze dried rather than cooked, with protein at 37%, fat 34%, crude ash 8%, crude fibre 6% and moisture 6% — a fairly rich profile for a sprinkle-on topper.

• 40G freeze-dried lamb topper
• 80% lamb, plus apple and butternut squash
• Protein 37%, fat 34%, crude ash 8%, crude fibre 6%, moisture 6%
• Freeze dried, for adult dogs
• Sprinkle over a usual bowl of dry or raw food

On what this is not. This is a complementary topper, not a complete food — it's meant to sit on top of an existing diet rather than replace it, and no specific serving amount per bowl is given, so a light sprinkle is the sensible starting point rather than a fixed measure.

Who it's for: owners of adult dogs who want to make an existing meal more appealing, particularly a fussy eater who needs encouragement rather than a new diet altogether.
