Full description

Single-animal recipes are most useful when the full ingredient list supports the claim. This dry food names salmon as its only animal protein source, while egg is also present and should not be overlooked.

Freshly prepared salmon is 40%, sweet potatoes 13.5% and whole peas 8%. Potatoes, pea protein, fish stock, pea fibre, nutritional yeast, minerals, botanicals at 1%, salmon oil, flaxseed, prebiotics, sunflower oil, egg, lentils, fruit, vegetables and a joint-care mix are also listed. The 2.5KG grain-free dry food is complete. Analysis gives 24.5% protein, 14% fat, 7% ash, 3.5% fibre, omega 6 at 4.2%, omega 3 at 1.8% and 369 kcal/100g.

Single protein does not mean single animal-derived ingredient. Salmon is the named protein source, but egg and fish stock are also in the recipe. The description links this formula to allergies, yet no food can be promised suitable for every allergic dog; discuss suspected reactions with your vet.

Who it's for: dogs whose owners want complete salmon-led dry food and are comfortable with egg, legumes and potato ingredients.

Lily's Kitchen Dog Salmon Supper

Why we chose it

The 40% salmon declaration is the strong reason to stock this bag. I have kept the allergy wording out of the promise and surfaced egg instead, because that is more useful when an owner is screening ingredients.
