Full description

A dog that has been unwell will often turn its nose up at a normal bowl of food, which is why a simpler, blander-sounding recipe is usually what gets offered first once things settle down.

Lily's Kitchen's Recovery Recipe is built around chicken at 50%, with potatoes at 11% and bananas at 9%, plus minerals and small amounts of FOS and MOS (0.1% each) as prebiotics. It is grain free, comes out at crude protein 9%, crude fat 4.5%, crude ash 3%, crude fibre 1% and moisture 80%, with an energy content of 81 kcal per 100g. It is a complete food, suitable for adult dogs from 4 months.

One thing worth knowing. "Recovery" describes the positioning, not a medical claim — this is a complete, grain-free food with a gentle recipe, not a veterinary diet. If a dog is genuinely unwell or off its food for more than a day or two, that calls for a vet, not just a change of tin.

Who it's for: owners of an adult dog easing back onto food after a rough patch, or one that generally does better on a simpler chicken-based recipe.

Lily's Kitchen Dog Recovery Recipe — 6 x 400g Tins

Why we chose it

Chicken at 50% leading the recipe, with banana and potato rather than a long list of vegetables, is about as simple as a complete wet food gets, which is exactly the point when a dog's stomach is unsettled. The stated 81 kcal per 100g also makes it easy to portion carefully while you're watching how a dog is doing.
