Brand: Johnson'S

Full description

Moulting takes more out of a bird than it looks like from outside the cage — growing a full new set of feathers is a genuine physical effort, which is why keepers often see a bird looking a little flat or subdued while it's happening.

Johnson's describe this as a new, improved tonic specifically for birds in the moult, aimed at helping to restore vitality, aid feathering, and promote beautiful plumage. It comes as a 15ml bottle, for cage birds.

Promotes beautiful plumage

What it's not for. This is aimed at the moult specifically — Johnson's don't present it as a general year-round tonic or a treatment for illness, so a bird that seems unwell outside of a moult, or whose moult looks abnormal (patchy, prolonged, or with skin visible for a long time), needs an avian vet rather than more tonic.

Who it's for: cage bird keepers wanting something specifically timed to the moult, rather than a general all-purpose tonic used year-round.

Johnson's Moultone

Why we chose it

It's aimed at one specific, predictable event — the moult — rather than sold as a cure-all, which is a more honest pitch than most tonics in this category. 15ml is also a sensible small size for something used seasonally rather than constantly.
