Full description

A recipe can be named after its most expensive ingredient rather than its most plentiful one, and salmon is usually the one that gets top billing even when it isn't doing most of the work.

Here, salmon and chicken together make up 65% of the recipe, but freshly prepared salmon is specifically only 26% of that, which leaves chicken making up the larger, unstated share. Vegetables (potato, peas and carrot) sit at 14%, and it's grain free with protein at 8.5%, fat at 7%.

Salmon & chicken 65% (26% freshly prepared salmon)
Vegetables 14% (potato, peas, carrot)
Protein 8.5%, fat 7%, crude ash 2.5%, crude fibre 0.4%
Grain free (explicit claim)
Green lipped mussel, seaweed and rosemary among the minor additions
400G tray

On the salmon content. This is sold as a Salmon recipe, but freshly prepared salmon is 26% of it, and chicken makes up the larger share of the combined 65% meat content. If salmon specifically is the reason you're buying it, it's the smaller of the two named meats, not the bigger one.

Who it's for: owners feeding grain free who want a salmon-and-chicken combination, rather than anyone after a salmon-only recipe.

Why we chose it

The list of minor additions runs further than most: green lipped mussel, seaweed, rosemary and green tea, all in tiny percentages. That suggests real care in the formulation, even if the salmon claim on the front needs a second look.
