Most pet hats are photographed on a very still dog and never mentioned again. This one at least admits what it is: a soft polyester cap made in a single average size, meant for the ten minutes around the tree and the card photograph rather than a day out. Warm enough on the head, light enough that most small dogs and cats will tolerate it whilst there is something in it for them.

It is woven plain-weave polyester with a tie-dyed finish, so the colour runs through the fabric rather than sitting on top of it as a print that cracks and peels. There is no rigid frame inside, which matters more than it sounds. A stiff hat pushes against the ears and gets shaken off within seconds, whilst a soft crown sits down over the head and stays put long enough for the picture.

• One size only, measuring 20 x 17 x 5cm
• Polyester, woven plain weave
• Tie-dyed finish rather than a surface print
• Weighs around 30g, so nothing for a small dog to carry
• Suits small dogs and cats, supplied as one hat

On sizing: there is one size and no adjustment, so measure your pet's head before ordering - 20 x 17 x 5cm is a small dog or a cat, not a Labrador. And treat it as a photograph hat. Headwear goes on for short supervised spells and comes off again, never left on a pet who is alone or trying to sleep.

Who it's for: owners of Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians and patient cats who want one good Christmas photograph without buying a full costume.
