Dr John Hypoallergenic Lamb & Rice

"Hypoallergenic" on a dog food bag is doing less work than owners tend to assume it is. It doesn't mean allergen-free, and it doesn't mean suitable for every sensitive dog; it means the recipe has been built to be less likely to trigger a reaction than an ordinary one, usually by cutting out one common culprit and sticking to a single named meat.

This is a complete dry food for adult sporting and working dogs, built around Lamb Meal at 55%, the only named meat in the recipe. In place of wheat it uses barley and rice, the rice at 8%, alongside peas at 4%, chicken fat, beet pulp, minerals and yucca extract, with taurine added at 500mg/kg. On the analysis it runs to 21% crude protein, 11% crude oils and fats, 2.5% crude fibre and 9% crude ash.

On "hypoallergenic": here it means wheat-free and single-protein, not free of every common trigger. The recipe still contains barley, rice and chicken fat, so a dog reacting specifically to grain or to chicken fat would still react to this one.
