Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.
How to measure
- Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
- Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
- If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

Full description
A cloak is the least demanding costume there is. There are no leg holes to thread, nothing goes over the head, and the whole thing sits along the back and fastens at the chest, which means the dog's legs, chest and belly stay free and the costume can be lifted off in one movement if the mood changes. The stand-up collar does most of the visual work on its own.
Fastening at the chest rather than under the belly matters more than it sounds. A chest closure keeps the fabric off the dog's undercarriage, so there is nothing to catch when they squat and nothing pressing on the stomach when they lie down. It also means the cloak drapes rather than grips, which is why cloaks tend to be tolerated by dogs who will not accept a jumper or a full-body outfit. Two sizes are listed.
