Anything you have to hide in cheese gets skipped eventually, which is why most digestive supplements end up half-used at the back of a cupboard. A soft chew that a dog takes as a treat gets given every day without negotiation, and daily is the only way a probiotic does anything at all. These are pork flavoured, soft enough to break in half, and go down as part of the normal routine rather than as a procedure.

Probiotics work by topping up the population of helpful bacteria in the gut, which is why consistency matters more than dose size. The dogs who benefit most are the ones whose digestion is unsettled by change: a new food, a kennel stay, a course of antibiotics or the general upheaval of moving house. Because the chews are suitable for dogs of all sizes from twelve weeks upwards, one tub covers a household with a puppy and an older dog in it.

• Probiotic soft chews for gut and digestive support
• Pork flavour, given as a treat rather than hidden in food
• Suitable for dogs of all sizes
• For dogs aged twelve weeks and over
• Soft texture that can be broken for smaller dogs

Two things worth knowing. This is a supplement, not a medicine. Persistent diarrhoea, blood, vomiting or weight loss needs a vet rather than a chew, and a probiotic will not fix a food that does not suit your dog.

Who it's for: Owners looking for straightforward daily digestive support for a dog who refuses powders and spits out capsules.
