Webbing straps rub. On a short-coated small dog in winter, a bare nylon harness worn over thin fur leaves a mark behind the front legs within a couple of weeks, and the dog starts flinching whenever it comes out of the cupboard. Lining the contact surfaces with fleece is a straightforward answer to that particular problem, and it is essentially the whole reason this set exists.

The lining sits where the harness meets the body, so the load spreads over a soft surface rather than a hard edge. It is a checked fabric with a velvet-edged trim in several colour combinations, and it arrives as a set: the harness, a matching lead, and a small drawstring pouch for treats and waste bags that saves digging through a coat pocket mid-walk. The whole set weighs somewhere between 120g and 160g depending on which size you take.

• Fleece lining where the harness sits against the body
• Checked design with a velvet-edged trim
• Matching lead included
• Drawstring treat pouch included
• Two sizes, S and M, suited to small dogs
• Colourways include pink, grey-pink, sky blue, coffee and grey-yellow
• 120g to 160g for the complete set

On size and on washing. This comes in small sizes only, so it is a small-dog harness rather than a general one. Measure the chest girth just behind the front legs and check it against the size guide before ordering. Fleece also holds damp and dries slowly, so after a wet walk it wants hanging up somewhere airy rather than being left in a heap by the door.

Who it's for: Small, short-coated dogs who chafe in plain webbing, and owners who would rather buy the whole walk in one go than three pieces separately.
