Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.

How to measure

Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.

Full description

Two-piece outfits cover more of a dog than a cape or a collar does, and that is both their appeal and the thing to think about before you order. You get a proper head-to-tail look for the party rather than a token gesture, and in exchange the dog has more fabric to get used to. Dogs who already wear coats without complaint tend to take it in their stride.

The fastening runs along the back, which is the sensible arrangement: it opens flat, goes on without anything being pulled over the head, and comes off in seconds if your dog has had enough. Four sizes are listed, S through to XL.
