The label contradicts itself in three places

We have been sent two analyses for the same product: one reading protein 30%, oil 9%, ash 8%, fibre 3% and moisture 22.5%, and another reading crude protein 20%, crude fibres 3%, crude ash 8%, fat content 9% and moisture 25%. The chicken content appears twice as well, once as a minimum of 20% fresh chicken and once as 26% chicken. And the listing has this filed as grain free while Davies' own ingredient list contains cereals, which cannot both be true. Why we chose it

Buying soft treats at 1.4KG is the cheapest way to train a dog, as long as you have somewhere airtight to keep them - the little pouches cost several times as much for the same weight. Moist chews also break up cleanly, so one piece becomes several rewards instead of one. That is the practical case, and the label contradictions above are why I would not sell it to you as a premium bag.

Moist treats are the ones a dog will genuinely work for, and also the ones that go off first. That makes the size of the bag a real decision rather than a price comparison: 1.4KG of something soft is only good value if it gets eaten before the air gets to it, which in practice means having somewhere airtight to put it before you buy.

These are gently cooked, moist and meaty pieces made with fresh meat, meant to be fed at any time as a snack, a reward or a training aid, and broken into smaller pieces where that suits. Davies list the ingredients as meat and animal derivatives with chicken, plus cereals, vegetables, various sugars, minerals and yeasts, and describe the product as wheat gluten free. The additives are antioxidants, preservatives and colours. Storage matters more here than on a biscuit: dry and cool before opening, and in an airtight container in dry cool conditions afterwards.

How much chicken is in them?

It depends which line you read. Davies' composition gives a minimum of 20% fresh chicken, while the ingredient list we have also states 26% chicken. The bag itself is the version to trust.

Are they grain free?

No, despite how the listing files them. Davies' own ingredient list contains cereals. What Davies do state is that they are wheat gluten free.

How should I store them?

Before opening, somewhere dry and cool. After opening, in an airtight container in dry cool conditions - these are moist chews, not biscuit, and they will not forgive an open bag.

Can they be broken up for training?

Yes. Davies suggest breaking them into bite sized pieces if required, and feeding at any time as a snack, treat, training aid or reward.

Do they contain colours?

The additives are listed as antioxidants, preservatives and colours, while Davies elsewhere state no artificial colours. That is another place the label disagrees with itself.
