"Hypoallergenic" on a dog food bag is doing a specific, narrow job here, and it's worth knowing exactly what that job is before assuming it means the recipe won't cause a reaction to anything.

Salmon leads the recipe at a minimum of 26%, with whole grain maize and barley providing the bulk of the carbohydrate alongside a minimum of 4% rice. Chudleys' hypoallergenic claim refers specifically to leaving out wheat-gluten, soya and egg - maize, barley and rice are all still in there. Joint-care ingredients are dosed in named amounts rather than vague percentages: green lipped mussel at 400mg/kg and glucosamine at 350mg/kg.

• Salmon (min 26%)
• Protein 22%, oil 12%, crude fibre 3%, crude ash 5.75%
• Green lipped mussel (400mg/kg) and glucosamine (350mg/kg)
• Formulated without wheat-gluten, soya or egg
• Designed for working dogs on a moderate workload
• 14KG bag

On "hypoallergenic." This claim specifically means no wheat-gluten, soya or egg - it doesn't mean grain-free. Whole grain maize, whole grain barley and rice are all in the composition, so a dog reacting to grains generally, rather than to wheat-gluten, soya or egg specifically, won't necessarily do better on this.

Who it's for: owners of working dogs on a moderate workload who want salmon as the named protein and a joint-care package with stated quantities, and who are avoiding wheat-gluten, soya or egg specifically rather than grains as a whole.
