A cape is the kindest costume there is. Nothing is threaded over a leg, nothing goes near the face, and it lifts off in a single movement the moment your dog has had enough — which, for most dogs, comes a good deal sooner than their owners expect. If a jumper or a full outfit has been refused in the past, this is the shape to try before you give up on the idea altogether.

The cloaks come in double-sided velvet or coral velvet, in three sizes, and the same listing carries the smaller pieces separately: velvet scarves in single and double-sided versions, matching velvet hats, and a 13.8g hair band for the pet who will accept something on the head but not a hood. Velvet is warm to the touch and photographs kindly under indoor lighting, where thin printed polyester tends to come out flat and shiny.

On sizing: small, medium and large are published with no measurements behind them, and this factory's sizing runs one to two sizes small against British sizing. Velvet is indoor warmth for an hour in a warm room, not outdoor kit — it soaks up rain and stays wet.

Who it's for: Dogs and cats who will not tolerate a jumper, and owners who want a Christmas outfit that goes on and comes off in one movement.
