A dog food that names its meat content as a small, specific percentage rather than burying it in a general "meat and animal derivatives" line at least tells you what you are actually buying, which is one of the more useful things Chappie does with this recipe rather than leaving it vague.

The composition is cereals including 4% whole wheat, meat and animal derivatives at 15% (of which 4% is beef), oils and fats at 4%, derivatives of vegetable origin and minerals. Protein comes out at 20%, fat at 8%, inorganic matter at 7% and crude fibre at 2%, with omega-3 at 0.15% and omega-6 at 1.98%. Mars describe it as developed with vets, and it is a complete food.

• Meat and animal derivatives 15%, including 4% beef
• Whole wheat 4%
• Protein 20%, fat 8%, crude fibre 2%
• Omega-3 0.15%, omega-6 1.98%
• Developed with vets
• 15kg bag

On the numbers. At 15% meat and animal derivatives with only 4% specified as beef, the remaining 11% is unnamed animal derivative rather than further broken down - so if you need to know exactly what species makes up the rest, this card cannot tell you, only that beef is the named portion.

Who it's for: owners looking for a straightforward, complete, budget-friendly adult dog food with at least a partial breakdown of its meat content, rather than a food that names nothing at all.
