Champion Professional is a range of complete tinned food aimed squarely at working and sporting dogs, sold in cases of twelve 400g cans. It is meaty chunks in jelly rather than a loaf or a pate, which matters more than it sounds, because a dog that turns its nose up at a solid block will often clear a bowl of chunks. It can be the whole meal or go over a dry food.

The panel reads Crude Protein 8%, Crude Fat 6.9%, Crude Fibre 0.3%, Crude Ash 3% and Moisture 79%. That 6.9% fat is the number to notice on a tin at this price, because it is the highest of the plain working tins we looked at, and fat is where a hard working dog gets most of its usable energy. The composition is meat and animal derivatives, cereals, minerals, derivatives of vegetable origin and various sugars, with vitamins A, D3 and E plus zinc, manganese and iodine added.

The flavour name on the case is not backed by a separate recipe on the label. Champion Professional publishes a single composition and a single analytical panel across its working dog tins, and that composition names no meat at all beyond meat and animal derivatives, with no species and no percentage. So a case badged beef and chicken carries the same declared numbers as the rest of the range. That is common at this end of the market and it is not a fault in the food, but if you are choosing a tin because of the animal on the front, this label will not back you up.

Who it's for: Someone feeding a genuinely active dog who wants the fat figure up and the price down, or anyone whose dog eats chunks in jelly and refuses a loaf. Not the tin for a dog on a single protein exclusion diet, because the label does not say what the protein is.
