Bonio Original Dog Biscuits

Bonio has been baked since 1932, which makes it older than most of what is in this shop by several decades. That longevity is the honest reason to stock it: dogs have liked it for ninety-odd years, owners know what it is, and nobody needs the concept explained to them.

The composition is cereals — of which wholegrain is 34% — with derivatives of vegetable origin, oils and fats, meat and animal derivatives, and minerals. The analysis gives protein 10.4%, fat content 4.5%, crude ash 4.6% and crude fibres 1.3%. Purina publish a proper feeding guide by bodyweight rather than a vague one: half a biscuit a day for a 7kg dog, one for a 15kg dog, one and a half for a 30kg dog.

The feeding guide is smaller than most people assume. Half a biscuit for a 7kg dog and one and a half for a 30kg dog is a genuinely modest allowance, and it is worth reading rather than skipping — these are substantial biscuits, and giving three or four a day to a small dog adds up quickly. Supervise your dog while they have one, as Purina advise, and keep water down. It is a complementary food, so it comes off the day's meals rather than being added on top.
