Bonio has been baked since 1932, which makes it older than most of what is in this shop by several decades. That longevity is the honest reason to stock it: dogs have liked it for ninety-odd years, owners know what it is, and nobody needs the concept explained to them.

The composition is cereals — of which wholegrain is 34% — with derivatives of vegetable origin, oils and fats, meat and animal derivatives, and minerals. The analysis gives protein 10.4%, fat content 4.5%, crude ash 4.6% and crude fibres 1.3%. Purina publish a proper feeding guide by bodyweight rather than a vague one: half a biscuit a day for a 7kg dog, one for a 15kg dog, one and a half for a 30kg dog.

• 650g, 1.2kg or 12.5kg box
• Traditional oven-baked biscuit, made since 1932
• Cereals, of which wholegrain 34%
• Protein 10.4%, fat content 4.5%
• Crude ash 4.6%, crude fibres 1.3%
• Feeding guide by bodyweight on the box

The feeding guide is smaller than most people assume. Half a biscuit for a 7kg dog and one and a half for a 30kg dog is a genuinely modest allowance, and it is worth reading rather than skipping — these are substantial biscuits, and giving three or four a day to a small dog adds up quickly. Supervise your dog while they have one, as Purina advise, and keep water down. It is a complementary food, so it comes off the day's meals rather than being added on top.

Who it's for: owners who want the traditional biscuit their dog already recognises, bought at a price that makes daily giving reasonable.
