Small breeds have small mouths and often smaller appetites to match, which is why a kibble made specifically for them tends to differ from a standard-size recipe in more than just the bag size. This one is pitched at small dogs from the ground up, on a duck base.

Duck makes up 50% of the recipe, broken into 27% freshly prepared free-run duck, 19% dried duck, 2% duck fat and 2% duck gravy, cooked with sweet potato, peas and herbs. It is grain-free and gluten-free throughout, in a 1.5kg bag sized for a small dog's feeding rate.

• 50% duck (27% freshly prepared, 19% dried, 2% duck fat, 2% duck gravy)
• Crude protein 25%, crude fat 19%, crude fibre 3.5%
• 388 kcal per 100g
• Grain-free
• Mixed herbs: peppermint, rosemary, oregano and thyme
• 1.5KG bag

What the duck breakdown means. As with the same brand's larger-breed duck recipe, "50% duck" here is four separate forms of the bird rather than one plain ingredient - worth knowing if a dog has reacted to duck fat or duck gravy specifically before.

Who it's for: small adult dogs being tried on duck as an alternative protein, in a bag sized for how much less they eat per day.
