Full description

Duck is one of the less common proteins a dry food is built around, which makes it worth a look for a dog that has already worked through the usual chicken and lamb options without settling. Barking Heads do not treat duck as one single ingredient here either - it is split four ways across the recipe.

The 50% duck is made up of 27% freshly prepared free-run duck, 19% dried duck, 2% duck fat and 2% duck gravy, cooked with sweet potato, peas and potato rather than cereal. It is a grain-free complete food with mixed herbs - peppermint, rosemary, oregano and thyme - worked through it.

50% duck (27% freshly prepared, 19% dried, 2% duck fat, 2% duck gravy)

What the name is really telling you. "Duck" on the front covers four different forms of the same bird rather than one plain ingredient, which is worth knowing if a dog has previously reacted to duck fat or duck gravy specifically rather than duck meat as a whole - the breakdown is on the label for exactly that reason.

Who it's for: adult dogs being tried on a novel protein for the first time, and owners who want the ingredient breakdown spelled out rather than a single blanket percentage.

Barking Heads All Hounder Fuss Pot Duck

Why we chose it

Duck is genuinely useful as an alternative protein when a dog has already been through chicken and lamb, and this one earns the shelf space by breaking the duck content down into its four forms rather than hiding behind one headline number. The 383 kcal per 100g figure also means portioning is not a guessing game.
