A harness is not a seatbelt on its own
This is designed to keep a dog secure in the car, but it still needs attaching to something — a proper restraint or seatbelt clip, bought to suit your car — and that is a separate item. Check what you are attaching it to as carefully as you check the harness. And measure both figures: neck AND chest, with a soft tape, because a dog can sit inside one range and outside the other. Ancol publish no weight guidance against these sizes to us.
Why we chose it
Two D-rings is what makes it worth owning — the same harness takes a car restraint and a lead, so the dog does not need changing at the boot. The reflective strips mean it earns its keep on the walk as well as the drive.

Size guide & how to measure
Harnesses are sized by the chest (girth) — the measurement around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
How to measure
- Stand your pet up squarely.
- Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Keep two fingers under the tape so the fit is snug, not tight.
- If your pet is between sizes, choose the larger one.
| Size | Typical chest / girth | Rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 28–40 cm | Toy breeds, kittens, very small dogs |
| S | 38–53 cm | Small dogs (e.g. Dachshund, Yorkie) |
| M | 50–68 cm | Medium dogs (e.g. Cocker Spaniel, Beagle) |
| L | 65–85 cm | Large dogs (e.g. Labrador, Boxer) |
| XL | 82–105 cm | Giant breeds (e.g. German Shepherd, Rottweiler) |
Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.

Full description
An unrestrained dog in a car is a problem in two directions: they can distract you on an ordinary journey, and in a sudden stop they become a weight travelling at whatever speed you were doing. A travel harness is the straightforward answer, and one that also works as a walking harness saves owning two.
This is the x-large — neck 60 to 85cm, chest 80 to 120cm. It has two D-rings, one on the front and one on the back, so it will take a car restraint on one and a lead on the other, and the contact area is deliberately large to spread the load across the dog rather than concentrating it. The chest is padded, the materials are chosen for strength rather than lightness, and there are reflective strips on it for walks in poor light. Ancol supply it on packaging they describe as widely recycled.

Who it's for: anyone who takes a large dog in the car regularly, and would rather buy one harness that does the journey and the walk at the other end.

Common questions
What size dog is the x-large for?
Neck 60 to 85cm and chest 80 to 120cm. Measure both with a soft tape — a dog can fit one range and not the other.
Does it come with a seatbelt clip?
No. It is the harness; the car restraint it attaches to is a separate item, bought to suit your car.
Can I walk the dog in it?
Yes. It has D-rings front and back and reflective strips, and Ancol design it for walks as well as the car.
Is it padded?
The chest is padded, and the contact area is made large to spread the load rather than concentrate it.
