Full description

A brush that only smooths the surface of a coat is solving half the problem, because the tangles that actually matter are usually sitting underneath, closer to the skin, where a quick pass never reaches.

This slicker does both jobs at once: long pins reach into the coat to detangle and lift loose hair, while shorter bristles behind them smooth the top coat afterwards. The pins are soft and ball-ended for comfort, and the pin pad on this large size measures 9.5cm x 7cm.

Long pins for detangling and lifting loose hair
Shorter bristles to smooth the top coat
Ball-ended pins for comfort
Pin pad measures 9.5cm x 7cm (large)
Also made in Medium and Small

One thing worth knowing. the makers don't give a weight limit or a coat-type restriction beyond "groom slowly and gently" — if your dog has a coat prone to matting rather than just shedding, this is a detangling aid, not a substitute for working out an established mat by hand first.

Who it's for: owners of a larger, longer-coated dog who want one brush that detangles and finishes the coat, rather than carrying two tools.

Ancol Ergo Hedgehog Slicker

Why we chose it

Two grooming jobs from one brush is the actual sell here — a lot of slickers only do the surface pass and leave the detangling to something else. The large pin pad suits a bigger dog's coat without multiple passes.
