A cat that scratches furniture is not misbehaving - it is doing something it needs to do somewhere it was not given the option to do properly. The fix that actually works is rarely a spray or a telling-off; it is giving the cat something better than the sofa arm.

The Ancol Elephant Catnip Box combines a cat scratching board with a cat hide in one piece, so it doubles as both a claw-maintenance surface and a quiet place to rest or play. Ancol build it from recyclable cardboard, which they describe as both durable and environmentally friendly, and the item ships in packaging that is itself widely recycled.

• Combines a scratching surface with a hiding/resting spot
• Made from recyclable cardboard
• Elephant-shaped design
• 100% recyclable
• Supplied in widely recyclable packaging

What's missing from the label. We have not been given dimensions for this box, so there's nothing here to check it against the space you have in mind, or against the size of your own cat. If you have a large cat, it may be worth confirming the size fits before it arrives rather than after.

Who it's for: owners of a cat that scratches furniture and would use a combined scratcher-and-hide, particularly where a plain flat scratcher board has already been ignored.
