Best dog food for a Beagle
Beagles are a medium-sized scent hound with a famously strong appetite, and the breed is well known among owners and vets alike for gaining weight easily if food and treats are not kept in check. The food itself does not need to be unusual — what matters more is portion size, treat habits, and picking a food suited to your dog's actual activity level and life stage.
Feeding a Beagle

An adult Beagle typically weighs 9–11 kg, so a healthy Beagle eats a moderate amount compared with other breeds. Every feeding guide on a bag is written per kilo of body weight, not per breed — start there, then adjust to the dog in front of you.
Life stage
A medium breed is usually done growing at ~12 months, which is roughly when a puppy food has finished its job. With a typical lifespan of 12–15 years, there is a long adult stretch in the middle; switch to a senior food when your vet thinks it is worth it rather than on a birthday.
A high-energy dog eats like one
Beagles sit at the top end for energy, and a dog working through an hour and a half of real exercise a day burns through the feeding guide faster than a dog on a short stroll. Feed to the dog's condition, not to the middle of the range on the bag.
This breed tends to bolt its food

Why weight management matters so much for this breed
Beagles were bred to work all day following a scent, and that appetite has not gone away in a breed that now spends most of its life as a pet with a fraction of that exercise. A Beagle will rarely turn down food, which makes it easy to overfeed one without meaning to, especially with treats added on top of meals.
A complete food fed at the amount suggested for your dog's weight and activity level, rather than free-fed or topped up generously, does more for a Beagle's long-term health than any particular brand or recipe. If your dog is already carrying extra weight, ask your vet about an appropriate feeding amount rather than guessing.
Choosing a food by life stage
A Beagle puppy needs a food formulated for growth, a working or very active adult may do well on a slightly higher-calorie complete food, and an adult with a more sedentary routine is often better suited to a standard or lower-calorie adult recipe. Because Beagles are so food-motivated, they are also easy to train with treats — the challenge is not motivation but making sure treats do not quietly become a large share of daily calories. Small, low-calorie training treats let you reward frequently during training without undoing portion control at mealtimes.
If your Beagle is overweight or you are managing their weight carefully, factor treats into their daily food allowance rather than treating them as extra, and consider breaking treats into smaller pieces so the same reward stretches further across a training session.
