Who makes Moderna?
Moderna is the brand behind a wide range of practical plastic pet equipment — cat litter trays and hooded loos, feeding bowls, carriers, scoops and storage containers — sold through pet shops rather than a Moderna-branded store of its own. We stock a selection across several parts of the range rather than a single product line.
What Moderna makes
The litter side of the range covers everything from an open tray through to a fully hooded "Smart Cat Loo" with a filtered top, along with corner-fit pans for awkward spaces and dedicated scoops sized to match. On the feeding side, Moderna makes bowls under several named lines — including the Smarty Bowl, Sensibowl and Spaniel Bowl ranges — plus food storage containers for keeping an opened bag fresh.
There's also a carrier range, with named models like the Hipster, Roadrunner and Odyssey carriers covering different sizes and styles, and a small range of plastic dog beds, so the brand isn't limited to litter equipment even though that's what it's best known for.
What we stock, and how to choose
We carry a selection from the litter tray and loo range, several of the bowl lines, and carriers, rather than every product Moderna makes. What's shown in the grid above reflects what's currently available to order, and that changes as stock does.
For litter equipment, an open tray suits a confident cat who's used to one, while a hooded loo gives more privacy and helps contain litter scatter, which matters more in a smaller room. For bowls, the right size depends on your pet rather than the model name — a bowl labelled for a particular use is still worth checking against your own dog or cat's size before buying.
Cleaning up and keeping it tidy
Alongside the trays and loos themselves, Moderna also makes matching scoops and liner bags sized for its own tray range, which is worth knowing if you're replacing one worn part rather than the whole tray. A scoop shaped for a particular tray tends to fit the corners more cleanly than a generic one bought separately.
Food storage containers are the other part of the range worth knowing about, keeping an opened bag of dry food sealed and fresh between meals rather than relying on a clip and the original bag.

Common questions
- Is Moderna a good brand for cat litter trays?
- Moderna is a widely available, well-established brand in this category, with a range that covers open trays through to hooded loos at different price points. Which one suits your cat best depends more on their own preferences than on the brand name.
- What's the difference between a Moderna litter tray and a hooded loo?
- An open tray is simpler and suits a cat who's used to one, while a hooded loo, like the Smart Cat Loo, encloses the litter area for more privacy and helps contain scatter and odour. Some cats take to a hood readily, others prefer to stay with an open tray.
- Does Moderna make products for dogs as well as cats?
- Yes, alongside the litter equipment it's best known for, Moderna also makes feeding bowls under lines like the Spaniel Bowl and Smarty Bowl, along with a small range of plastic dog beds.
